People often fall into the mental trap of dogmatism, aligning and entrenching themselves into a position, denying themselves the opportunity to objectively assess an issue from multiple angles.

Politics is a good example of this. Both liberals and conservatives alike blindly follow the tenets prescribed by their political affiliation, selectively ignoring the facts that might contradict their opinion.
