The Mechanics of Insomnia

The line between conscious and unconscious can be very blurry, especially when one is laying in bed with closed eyes trying to reach the other side. I reduced the act of sleep into a tangible mechanism with the headboard of the bed functioning as a metaphorical guillotine, separating the brain from the body. A carburizing Venturi effect of serotonin and other sleep inducing chemicals are mixed and sprayed.

The amorphous figure in the upper left symbolizes a return the womb, the tendency of the body to curl into a fetal position while unconscious.
