Artificial Artifact Artifice
Hoaxes are prevalent throughout history and in our digital age of information continue to run rampant afflicting gullible people everywhere. The internet is responsible for proliferating a great deal of pseudo science, dangerously uninformed medical advice, conspiracy theories, the list goes on and on.
This piece is a deliberate “fake” an overtly fictitious energy source for an alien spacecraft. The use of material comments on the blurry lines between organic and synthetic, everything is derived from an elemental origin on some level. Silicone has properties resembling flesh tissue, yet has connotations of “unnatural”. Steel is more “pure” but is cold and industrial, while wood lands in between, with organic warmth.
Of course all of these attributes are projected onto these materials by humans and our flawed perceptions.
