Crack in the Egghead
A floating disembodied head focuses psychic energy on an egg, instigating its hatching. This painting is self referential, addressing the artistic process with the glowing egg representing the birth of creative insight.
Tapping into and accessing such an often elusive place is the source of frustration for many artists, myself included. The energy expended during this process can be seen in the form of mental exhaust wafting up into the sky. Shadows dot the surreal landscape, symbolizing the false leads that distract away from the true direction of any given art piece.
I cut the plywood base into strips corresponding with the color divides and re-glued them. This action mirrors the creative process of assembling fractured pieces into a cohesive narrative.
